iTrip Tragic Troubles

février 28, 2006

I got my iTrip before I even got my iPod. It’s probably the most usefull accessory for the iPod and I really don’t regret spending 40$ on it. Since I got my iPod and my iTrip, I barely listen to radio anymore. Podcasts replaced the radio and I now carry my whole CD collection with me, which is great when traveling for long periods of time.

Twice in past two days, though, it’s been acting a little strangly. While I was listening to a podcast, it suddently decided to switch to a different FM channel. The little light went blinking and the radio started to play white noise. When the light went solid again, I was still hearing white noise on the radio. I had to manually go and select the 94.5 frequency (a little bit of nostalgy here…) while driving.

This is really frustrating because I haven’t used the device for a year yet. There are no mobile pieces so, if something is broken, I would think it would be the connector. If the problem persist, I might have to buy a new one. I would choose one of the new ones that connect to the docking port rather than the remote because it would be compatible with both my iPod Photo and Nathalie’s iPod Video. The only problem with that is, if I want to charge the iPod and use the new iTrip at the same time, I would need the new car adapter. Indeed, mine has the Firewire power adapter and I would need the USB power adapter. The other option would be to use the combo model, which wouldn’t work inside the house. I guess I could build myself an adapter to keep using my Firewire car adapter (relevant information here and here) but is it really worth the trouble? The more I think about it, this story is getting frustrating… Argh!

  1. Just to let you know, it happened another time as I was driving back home yesterday, so I went to the Griffin web site and left an email message to their product support team. Let see what they will think of this problem…
