Info-Road Kill

septembre 20, 2005

I was reading the slides of this presentation Cory Doctorow gave to Microsoft about DRM (Digital Right Management if I remember correctly) and stumble uppon this sentense which speaks for itself:

The dinosauric executive who prints his email and dictate a reply to his secretary is info-roadkill.

In the context of the information highway, this bring to my mind a strong picture! Speaking of the information highway, I really enjoyed the tirade two characters of Neil Stevenson‘s Cryptonomicon had on the subject. One is a technology geek working to setup a data-heaven while the other is an Internet user who knows about nothing about the way it works, but keep pretending to own the truth. They have a nice debate regarding what the information highway is, or if it exists at all.

Do you think the information highway exists? Or is it just a term some people came up with that doesn’t really mean anything? Is it just a catch-all term for the World Wide Web or is it something more? I personnaly never use that term. Do you?
